The WTIA Qualification and Certification Schemes for Welding Fabrication Inspection Personnel are comprehensive voluntary schemes which provide for the examination, qualification and certification of individuals seeking to demonstrate their knowledge and/or competence in their field of operation. Their objectives are to assist industry to be competitive and safe through competent inspection of important fabricated welded equipment, plant or structures.
WTIA has been successfully conducting programmes for the qualification and certification of welding related personnel for many decades.
In 1997, the AS/NZS ME/1/23 Committee “Certification of Inspection Bodies & Personnel” issued document MP76 1997 “Pressure equipment – Inspection bodies and personnel” to be used in conjunction with AS/NZS 4481 “Pressure equipment – Competencies of inspectors”.
The Australian Institute for the Certification of Inspection Personnel (AICIP) was requested by the AS/NZS committee to develop and implement programmes for the certification of fabrication inspectors in line with the above. AICIP requested WTIA to incorporate such programmes into its existing programmes for the certification of welding inspectors which had been established in 1978. Many inspectors are performing both sets of duties i.e. welding and other fabrication inspection. |
